Rabbi Shlomo ibn Gabirol: At the Dawn Print E-mail

Hebrew PoetryThe 4th of Iyar is the Yahrtzeit of Rabbi Shlomo ibn Gabirol of Malaga, Spain. He died on April 21, 1021.

At the dawn I seek You,
Rock and refuge tried,
In due service speak You
Morn and eventide.

Beneath Your greatness shrinking,
Stand I sore afraid,
All my secret thinking
Bare before You is laid.

Little to Your glory
Heart or tongue can do;
Small remains the story,
Add we spirit too.

Yet since man’s praise ringing
May seem good to You,
I will praise You singing
While Your breath’s in me.
